'Lepus', 'Hare' and 'Bear' were based on Medieval Bestiaries, a book of parables which used animals to illustrate religious themes and moral tales in Medieval times. One story explained that bears gave birth to cubs that were without shape or form, so the mother bear had to lick the cub into shape. I also came across stuff like this, "The wolf may not bend his neck backward in no month of the year but in may alone, when it thundereth". Love it! :)
just amazing work. beautiful.
